!After Thomas Choate was killed by Tories, his family continued to live at
  their home outside the "Settlement" in South Carolina.  Indians were a
  source of danger and fear for the colonists at this time, especially to
  those who sought to live away from the "settlement"  Warning of an Indian
  raid came one day while Elizabeth Choate was weaving cloth to make clothing
  for her children.  Thet left hurriedly for the "settlement" leaving their
  home and belongings to the mercies of the Indians.  When the danger was
  passed, she felt it her duty to return and investigate the results of the
  raid.  She prepared food for her and one of her sons, who was armed with
  a shotgun, and returned to the cabin home which had luckily escaped
  destruction.  While the son stood guard outside the house and watched for
  any sign of danger, she wove cloth, never stopping for two days and nights
  except to eat of the food they had brought. Upon completion of the web
  of cloth, she cut it from the loom and they hurriedly and safely returned
  to the settlement.
